If you’re new to the world of cannabis, you’ve probably come across the term “hashish” or simply “hash.” Maybe you’ve heard it’s a more potent form of cannabis, but you’re not quite sure how to smoke it or what the experience is like. Don’t worry, you’re not alone! When I first started exploring hash, I was curious and a little unsure too. But with a bit of guidance, I quickly learned that smoking hash can be a smooth and enjoyable experience—if you know the right way to do it.

In this post, I’ll break down the best methods for smoking hash like a pro. Whether you’re looking to try it for the first time or just want to get the basics right, I’ve got you covered. I’m currently smoking on some homemade has right now so let’s dive in!

What is Hashish (Hash)?

When I first heard about hashish, I wasn’t entirely sure what it was, so let me break it down for you. Hashish, or simply hash, is a concentrated form of cannabis made from the resin of the cannabis plant. Essentially, it’s the sticky, potent goodness that gets collected and compressed into a solid form. There are a few different types of hash out there, like traditional hash, bubble hash, and dry sift, each made using slightly different methods. I had tried bubble hash a couple times from my friends but I didn’t really get into smoking hash until this last year when I started making my own hash using the methods described in this article.

What makes hash so popular is its potency—it’s much stronger than regular cannabis flower, which gives it a different, often more intense experience. If you’re looking for a deeper, more relaxing high, hash is a great option because it tends to provide longer-lasting effects compared to smoking flower.

How to Prepare Hash for Smoking (for Beginners)

When it comes to preparing hash for smoking, the first thing you’ll need to do is break it down into smaller pieces. Depending on the texture of the hash, you can either use a grinder or just crumble it with your fingers. If it’s a soft hash, it’ll break apart easily, almost like a play-doh consistency. If it’s a bit harder, using a knife or the edge of a lighter might be the way to go to break chunks off. Some soft hash can be rolled out into what are I call snakes. This makes it easier to put into your joints. Now, once your hash is ready, you can choose your smoking method

Best Methods for Smoking Hash for Beginners

Just a quick warning before you start smoking hash. It can be extremely potent stuff especially if you are a beginner or have a low tolerance. Start low, go slow as they say! Now lets learn to smoke hash

Pipe

Smoking hash out of a pipe is definitely the easiest. I use a glass pipe. All you really have to do is either have a big enough piece that it doesn’t fall through the hole in the pipe, or use a screen. Last thing you want is the hash falling through the hole in the pipe and shooting towards you like a flaming missile. It might just get stuck depending on the pipe you use for this.

Then you just need to light it. I use a regular lighter but I try to not let the flame actually touch the hash, and then just inhale slowly. The flame will come towards the hash and just barely touch it and you’ll see it start to melt. It may stay on fire while you are inhaling but will stop pretty quickly.

Joint

For awhile this was my favorite way to smoke hash. Also known as twaxxing or twaxing, putting hash inside of your joint is easy and can be done in a couple ways. First one, roll the hash into a long snake, if your hash is soft enough to allow that. Next place it into your joint, surrounded by flower and you’ll be good. Next way to put hash into your joint is to just drop small pieces into the flower. A little easier to do, but careful its not loosely rolled or the small pieces of hash fall out while still lit.

Best Methods for Smoking Hash for Advanced Stoners

These aren’t necessarily harder than the beginner ways that I explained on how to smoke hash, but they are likely to get you much more stoned as you are smoking a lot of hash quickly.

Hot Knifing

This one is more of an advanced method of smoking hash. I would call it the precursor to dabs. Anyways, hot knifing is taking a piece of hash and squishing it between two hot knives to vaporize it. The process is pretty simple.

Before anything, set your piece of hash onto a non flammable, non meltable surface. Heat two knives up until they are red hot. Touch one of the hot knifes to the hash you had ready and it should stick. Give it a good push if it doesn’t instantly stick. Then touch the second knife and push them together and inhale the smoke. Cut the bottom off a water bottle and hold it between your lips when you inhale to make it easier so you don’t lose any of the smoke. The OG method would be to use your parents kitchen stove and your moms good two butter knives. Jokes aside thats all you need. You can use a different heat source than a kitchen stove if you want, but I like the direct propane flame off mine.

Vaping

You can use either a dry herb vape or a concentrate vape, depending on the quality of the hash. Most hash isn’t full melt though so may make a mess of your concentrate vape. To find out if your hash is full melt or not try the hot knife method first. Now, let’s learn how to smoke hash with a vape. I mean vape hash with a vape.

If its full melt then you can use a concentrate vape, and use it just like you would any other concentrate. For non full melt, your going to want to use a dry herb vape. Sandwich a piece of hash in flower and place into your dry herb vape. Vape around 460F or so. Play around with temp from there depending on preference and vape.
